Tune in to WKNR on Monday

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Jay and Scotty, along with drunkdude69’s Mike Adams, will join Kenny Roda and Michael Reghi (@ReghiandRoda) on ESPN Cleveland radio Monday 10/4 at 5:00PM to premiere the new “Afternoon R&R” theme song.

Many of you know that Scott and Charley are in another band called drunkdude69, which writes and records original music in a funk/rock/ska style. The R&R theme song is based on a drunkdude69 song called “It’s Alive”, which is on DD69’s upcoming release Wigs & Liquor.

Jay collaborated with the double-D-6-9 to create new lyrics and a new melody custom-written for the show, and Scotty dressed it up with some entertaining samples of Roda and Reghi doing their thing on-air.

No official release date is set yet for Wigs (DD69 is in the design and manufacturing process), but it should be available for ordering / download before the end of the year. Check out for updates, or pick up DD69 CDs at any Skinny Moo show.

Early in the (Fox 8) Morning (Show)

Skinny Moo on Fox 8

Incredibly, Skinny Moo was up at the crack of dawn (a time we like to refer to around Moo HQ as “0-dark-30”).  We arrived at the Fox 8 Studios near downtown Cleveland in the morning darkness, and got our gear into the studio.  As with our previous appearances on the show, we set up mostly during commercial breaks.

We drank coffee.  The Deuce spilled coffee on Jay.  Jay changed his shirt.  It was all eerily familiar.

We did five “bumps” today, small one-minute segments of songs that served as transitions between the show and commercials.  Fox promoted our recent “Best of Cleveland” accolade from Cleveland Magazine, along with the party this Friday at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Jay texted Todd Meany during one of the songs, displaying surprising multi-tasking skills.  Why Jay can’t sing and play a tambourine is still beyond us.

kenny_glovesWe even had a chance to run into our favorite feature reporter Kenny Crumpton on our way out.  He was not wearing rubber gloves at the time, which was a relief.  Hopefully we’ll catch up with him again at the Rock Hall on Friday!

We’ll get some videos posted soon.  And lastly we wanted to assure “michelle”, who posted this comment on the Fox 8 Morning Show Graffiti Board…

…that Skinny Moo is indeed comprised of alains from the planet FunkFunk.  We’ve always been very up-front about that, so hopefully we haven’t offended anyone’s sensibilities.

UPDATE: Pics are posted here.

UPDATE 2: Here’s the last bump we did: “I Can’t Get Next To You” by the Temptations (1969)

Fox 8 Morning Show and the Hot List

Monday, October 5th, 2009

It’s been a while since we had the opportunity to visit our friends at Fox 8, and we’re excited to be returning to the studio bright and early on Monday October 12th.

Fox Rocks

We’ll play a number of  “bumps” (one minute bits of music when the show is going to or coming back from commercials), and we’ll be talking about our recent ‘best of’ mention in Cleveland Magazine.

We’re also on the list of candidates for the Fox 8 Hot List (in excellent company – lots of great bands and artists are listed).  We’d love to have your vote!  You can cast your vote here.

UPDATE: Thanks to Heather at the Fox 8 hot list for helping us hot list n00bs get the voting URL right!

Jay and Scotty with Kenny Roda

Jay and Scotty enjoyed the opportunity to sit in the broadcast studio with Kenny Roda. Expecting about 12 minutes to impinge on Kenny’s sports talk extravaganza, the Moo boys were privileged to hang out for a little while longer, talking about the upcoming Moo gig at Johnny Malloy’s in Medina this Saturday 8/30, taking a couple calls from Moo devotees (who knew?), and talking about the new theme song for Kenny’s show “In the Zone with Kenny Roda“.

Yes, every weekday evening you can hear Jay’s mellifluous vocals introducing the Kenny Roda radio show on WKNR 850, backed by the wicked-awesome funk stylings of none other than drunkdude69. For more details, stop on by the DD69 blog – and note that this isn’t the first time that Jay has collaborated with the ‘dudes – he made a memorable guest appearance on the recently released DD69 album “Funk Out With Your Junk Out” (a title which apparently amused Kenny to no end).

Here’s a snippet of the in-studio experience, with Jay elaborating on the recording process, and Scotty detailing how he keeps all of the outtakes for possible future use…
